Since you are reading this, I dare say I was a person just like you are now. Stuck in traffic every morning/eve in order to meet the obligation to sit at a desk in the office.
Long before I became a mother commuting got on my nerves. But hey, I accepted it. Didn’t I have to? Everyone else is coping with this. As a parent, I realised what an impact the three-hour travelling per day had on my life. Honestly speaking there was little energy left to simply "be".
A rough overview, which will be very known by yourself:
Getting up at 5:30am, drop the little one off at Kindergarten at 7:30am, at the office for 9am, no time for lunch, leaving the office at 3pm, rushing back to pick up my kid (hopefully) before 5pm, going shopping until 6pm, preparing food, bedtime at 7:30pm for the offspring, laundry, pets and household for me. At about 9.30pm I was done. Physically and mentally. No time, let alone energy, to unwind with sport, meditation or reading. And all this for a part-time job! No one paid me the three-hour commute. 15 hours lost hours per week. With part of it, I could work full time and earn what I was used to before I became a Mum AND have a bit more time at hand.
I looked around me, listened to people telling the same tale and sure enough came to one conclusion: A great number of people would be able to do their work unattached from their offices. Skipping traffic jams, having more net-time on their hands. So why not change it? Because the coffee at the office tastes much better?
Our society has created a digitalized environment. Internet mostly everywhere, cloud services, messaging platforms, time tracking tools and so on. This already gives us all we need to overcome that so-called "need" to be at the office. What we really do need is to look beyond what is generally accepted, to decrease our expenses (fuel, car repairs) the impact we have on our planet (emissions) and to start being master of our time again.
This is how it all started and now you are here. Thank you! I feel privileged working with you.
Welcome to a new Green Working Life!
